Newly elected Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was formally handed over the election paper on Wednesday and with this he assumed office. The party's Central Election Authority chief Madhusudan Mistry handed over the election certificate to Kharge. Hailing from the Dalit community, 80-year-old Kharge had defeated his rival Shashi Tharoor, 66, in the historic election held on October 17. The election for the post of president was held for the sixth time in the party's 137-year history.
