New Delhi / Manu and Elavenil win gold in 10 meters, Abhishek-Saurabh Qualified for Finals

India's shooters Manu Bhaker and Elavenil Velarivan won gold in the Women's World Cup Shooting on Thursday. In the ongoing tournament in Putian, China, 17-year-old Manu scored a record 244.7 in the finals of the 10m pistol event. While Velarivan won the gold with a score of 250.8 in the finals of the 10m air rifle event. At the same time, in the men's section 10m pistol event, Abhishek Verma and Saurabh Chaudhary qualified for the finals. Abhishek topped the table with 588 points, while Saurabh finished seventh with 581 points.

In the women's 10m event, Serbia's Jorana Arunovic won silver with 241.9 points and China's Qian Wang won bronze with 221.8 points. While India's Yashaswini Singh Deswal finished sixth in the final. This is India's first medal in this tournament which runs from 17 to 23 November.

Manu's Women's Junior World Record

Manu, who won gold in the Commonwealth Games at the Women's Junior World Record, set the women's junior world record for the 10-meter event with a score of 244.7. Prior to this, China's Rankin Jian scored 243.3 in November 2018 in Kuwait.

Manu could not qualify for the 25m Final

Earlier on Wednesday, Manu Bhakar and Rahi Sarnobat could not qualify for the finals in the women's 25m air pistol event. Manu, who won gold in the Commonwealth Games, scored 583. Germany's Doreen Vennekamp and Australia's Elena Galiabovich also had a score of 583, but the German shooters advanced to the final due to an extra 10 inning.
