UP: Several women and children were injured on Monday due to a stampede-like situation at the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. According to the people present inside the temple, the temple was crowded with VIPs who came to visit the temple, due to which the situation got out of control. On the first Monday of Sawan, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Chief Minister Uma Bharti and many VIPs had reached the temple for darshan.

In a video that is going viral on social media, it is seen that from Gate No. 4 of the temple, devotees broke the security cordon and started entering inside with a push, which led to a stampede-like situation. It was a matter of relief that the accident was averted and no one died. It is seen in the video that the police deployed to bring the situation under control is also being pushed.

The Ujjain Mahakaleshwar temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and was opened last month to those who have received at least one dose of the corona vaccine or whose RTPCR report 48 hours ago is negative. The administration has fixed the number of darshan of 3500 people between 6 am and 8 pm to enter the temple. In which only 500 people are allowed entry in two hours.

Confirming the incident, Ujjain District Magistrate Ashish Singh said that the situation will be normal next Monday. The incident on Monday was the exception. We will plan for next Monday and social distancing will be followed.
