Uttar Pradesh | The body of Lancenayak Chandrashekhar Herbola, who was killed in an avalanche in Siachen Glacier, has been found after 38 years. The wounds of the family became green once again with the information of getting the body. According to the administration, the body of the martyr is likely to reach Haldwani on Tuesday.

Lance Naik Chandrashekhar Harbola, originally a resident of Binta Hathikhur village under Ranikhet tehsil of Almora district of Uttarakhand, was recruited in the Kumaon Regiment in 1971. In May 1984, a team of 19 soldiers led by Battalion Leader Lt PS Pundir set out for Operation Meghdoot.

On 29 May, the entire battalion was buried by a heavy avalanche, after which he was declared a martyr. At that time the age of Lance Naik Chandrashekhar was 28 years. On Saturday night, Shanti Devi, the wife of the martyr, got information from the phone that the body of the martyr Lance Naik Chandrashekhar was recovered from the glacier.

On receiving the information, the administration team including SDM Manish Kumar Singh and Tehsildar Sanjay Kumar reached his house in Saraswati Vihar on Rampur Road, Dahariya on Sunday. Expressing condolence, the SDM consoled the family members. Assistant Sainik Welfare Officer Pushkar Bhandari said that according to the information, the body of the martyr is expected to reach Haldwani by Monday evening.

Said that the last rites of the martyr would be performed with full state honors at Chitrashila Ghat in Ranibagh. Preparations have been made for the funeral.
