Tripura MLA Ashish Das announced to quit BJP by shaving his head at Kalighat Kali Temple in Kolkata. After shaving his head, Ashish Das said that I am leaving BJP today. I have held talks with TMC. More BJP MLAs may leave the party in the coming days.

Ahead of quitting the party, Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ashish Das on Tuesday described Mamata Banerjee as the "real leader of mother, soil, manush" of Bengal and said that if she becomes the prime minister in future, it will be for every Bengali. It would be something to be proud of. Das said, "Mamata Banerjee has become the real leader of Maa, Mati, Manush. His massive victory in the recent Bhawanipur by-election is yet another testament to his immense popularity among the people of Bengal.

He said that the voters of Bhawanipur showed that they want Mamata Banerjee to take charge of the country one day. "This victory has paved the way for him to become the face of opposition parties in the days to come," he said. Das said that though Bengal played a stellar role in the struggle for the country's independence, it did not get the recognition it deserved in the political arena over the years. He said that if Mamata didi becomes the Prime Minister then it will be justice to Bengalis and will correct the mistake of decades.

Significantly, the Trinamool Congress is hoping to register a victory in Tripura after its landslide victory in the recently held assembly elections in Bengal. It has launched a campaign to reach out to the people in the northeastern state to oust Biplab Deb's BJP government there in the 2023 assembly elections.
