WPL 2023 / Mumbai Indians started with a win, Harmanpreet made records in the very first match

WPL 2023 : Mumbai Indians made a winning start in the inaugural season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) by defeating Gujarat Giants. The Mumbai team won by 143 runs in the match played at DY Patil Stadium on Saturday. Mumbai scored 207 runs for 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, after which the Gujarat team could score only 64 runs and their innings was reduced to 15.1 overs.


Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur made records. She played the biggest individual innings in the Women's Premier, made the biggest score as captain, scored the first half-century and even completed Fifty in 22 balls. He hit a flurry of fours as soon as he came and played an inning of 65 runs in only 30 balls. His innings included 14 fours. Apart from Harmanpreet, Haley Mathews played useful innings of 47 off 31 balls and Emilia Kerr scored an unbeaten 45 off 24 balls. He was chosen player of the match.


Ishaq took 4 wickets

Saika Ishaq, a resident of Bengal, performed amazingly for the Mumbai team and took 4 wickets. Left arm spinner Ishaq gave just 11 runs in 3.1 overs. Apart from him, Natalie took 2 wickets by giving 5 runs. Amelia Kerr also took 2 wickets. Issy Wong bowled 3 overs and took one wicket for 7 runs. Dayalan Hemlata scored the highest 29 runs for the Gujarat team and returned unbeaten. Hemlata faced 23 balls and hit one four, 2 sixes. No other player could touch double figures for the Gujarat team. Beth Mooney retired hurt.


Kerr and Harman added 89 runs

Captain Harmanpreet and Kerr shared an 89-run partnership for the fourth wicket. For Gujarat, off-spinner Sneh Rana took 2 wickets for 43 runs. Gujarat team captain Beth Mooney won the toss and called Mumbai Indians to bat first. Opener Yastika Bhatia (1) returned to the pavilion early. If Mumbai managed to score 44 runs in the powerplay, then the credit goes to Haley Mathews, who adopted an aggressive approach from the beginning. He hit 3 fours and 4 sixes in 31 balls. Natalie scored 23 runs off 18 balls.
