The ruling NDA at the Center has chosen CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election. On Sunday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda made a formal announcement after a high-level meeting in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This decision was taken after former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar left the post on July 21, 2025 due to health reasons.

CP Radhakrishnan's political and social life has spanned more than four decades. Radhakrishnan, who has been a two-time Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, has shown his activism in various social and constitutional roles. He was appointed Governor of Maharashtra in July 2024, and now the NDA has expressed confidence in him for the post of Vice President.

Preparations for Vice Presidential election intensify

Voting for the Vice Presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 9, 2025. However, the opposition parties have not yet announced their candidate. Political analysts believe that Radhakrishnan's candidature is supported by the strong position of the NDA and his long experience. Political journey of Radhakrishnan

CP Radhakrishnan was born in Tamil Nadu and started his political career by joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP. Radhakrishnan, who was elected Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore in 1998 and 1999, played an active role in various parliamentary committees. Apart from this, he has also contributed in the field of social work and education. His simplicity and direct communication with the public have been his identity.

During his tenure as the Governor of Maharashtra, he took many important decisions, including issues related to education and social inclusion. His image and experience make him a strong contender for the post of Vice President.

The meeting with Prime Minister Modi is being seen as a strategic move after Radhakrishnan's candidature. According to sources, the Vice Presidential election as well as national and regional issues were discussed in this meeting. Radhakrishnan described this meeting as cordial and inspiring.
