Benjamin Netanyahu / Netanyahu gets a big setback from the court, refuses to postpone the hearing of the cases

Amid tensions with Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has received a major setback from a Jerusalem court. The court rejected his plea for a two-week reprieve in corruption cases. Judge Rivka Friedman-Feldman called the plea baseless. Netanyahu is accused of bribery and fraud.

Benjamin Netanyahu: Amid deepening tensions with Iran and security challenges, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suffered a major setback from a Jerusalem court. The court has rejected his petition to postpone the ongoing trial against him in three corruption cases for two weeks. The court's decision has come at a time when Netanyahu is busy with international and internal security matters.

The court did not accept Netanyahu's argument

District Court Judge Rivka Friedman-Feldman clarified on Friday that there was no solid basis in the petition filed by the Prime Minister's lawyer Amit Hadad to prove that it was necessary to postpone the hearing. The court said that it is not appropriate to postpone the judicial process unless there is an extraordinary reason behind it.

However, a few hours after the court's decision, a new petition was filed on behalf of Netanyahu in which he informed about his busy schedule for the next week. He claimed that the recent military conflict with Iran and the subsequent ceasefire have entangled him in many bilateral and national security matters, so he should be given two weeks.

Gaza conflict and role of mediation

Meanwhile, according to several media reports, Israel and the United States are working together on a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza war and bring regional stability. This plan can be an important step towards normalizing relations with Arab countries, although it has not been confirmed at any official level yet.

Netanyahu is surrounded by serious allegations of corruption

Netanyahu has been accused of bribery, fraud and breach of public trust in three separate cases. He has consistently described these allegations as politically motivated and claims that the police and prosecutors are conspiring to remove him from power.

Government allies expressed displeasure

Netanyahu's allies have reacted sharply to this decision of the court. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called it unfortunate and said that the court and the prosecution were ignoring national interests. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called it 'far from reality' and reiterated the appeal of former US President Donald Trump in which he had demanded to stop Netanyahu's case.

Likud Party expressed support

Likud Party MP Tali Gotliev also made sharp comments on this matter. He wrote on Twitter (now X) that "the insult being done to the Prime Minister is now unbearable." He expressed hope that Netanyahu will overcome this challenge with his struggle, courage and leadership ability.

Netanyahu surrounded on political and legal fronts

This decision has emerged as a major legal hurdle for Netanyahu, especially when he is already facing political pressure on many fronts. Now it remains to be seen whether Netanyahu is able to overcome these allegations and criticism and maintain his political position, or whether this crisis will become a turning point for his leadership.
