Notice under Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act

The Election Commission has issued this notice using Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act. BJP President JP Nadda had filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Rahul Gandhi, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had filed a complaint with the Commission against PM Modi. The Election Commission has issued this notice after taking cognizance of both the complaints. The Election Commission has sought answers from both the leaders by 11 am on April 29.

The Commission says that political parties have to take primary and increasing responsibility for the conduct of their candidates, especially star campaigners. Campaign speeches by people in high positions have more serious consequences.
