Vice President Election: India Alliance has announced the name of former Supreme Court judge B Sudarshan Reddy from Andhra Pradesh as its candidate for the post of Vice President. Reddy will face National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate CP Radhakrishnan. This decision was announced by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Reddy was selected unanimously

Mallikarjun Kharge said that after extensive discussions with the opposition parties, consensus was reached on the name of B Sudarshan Reddy. All the major parties of the alliance, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have supported Reddy's name. Kharge said, "We discussed with all the allies and this decision was taken considering Reddy's experience and qualification."

Consensus could not be reached with the government

The government had tried to build consensus among all the parties regarding the selection of the candidate for the post of Vice President, but this attempt was unsuccessful. Two days ago, the NDA had declared CP Radhakrishnan of Tamil Nadu as its candidate. After this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was given the responsibility of negotiating with the opposition parties, but no positive result came out.

Tiruchi Siva's name was also discussed

According to sources, before B Sudarshan Reddy, the name of DMK leader Tiruchi Siva was also considered. However, the India Alliance finally decided to make Telangana's Sudarshan Reddy the candidate. This decision is considered to be part of the strategy to strengthen the alliance's position in South India.

Who is B Sudarshan Reddy?

B Sudarshan Reddy was born in Andhra Pradesh in 1946. He obtained a law degree from Osmania University and started his career under famous lawyer Pratap Reddy.

1988: Reddy was appointed government lawyer in Andhra Pradesh High Court.

1993: He was made an additional judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court.

2005: Appointed as Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court.

Reddy has made many important contributions in the judicial field in his long career. His appointments and decisions have made him a respected personality.

Strategy behind making Reddy the candidate

The NDA's nomination of CP Radhakrishnan of Tamil Nadu is being seen as a strategy to strengthen the political base in South India. In response to this, the Congress and India Alliance chose B Sudarshan Reddy of Telangana, so that their position in South India could be further strengthened.

Apart from this, Sudarshan Reddy has been the head of the process of caste survey in Telangana. Under his leadership, this survey was successfully completed in Telangana. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly raised the issue of caste census, and by making Reddy the candidate, the party wants to raise this issue more strongly.

Importance of Vice Presidential election

This election for the post of Vice President is not only important from the political point of view, but it is also an opportunity to test the strength of both the alliances in South India. Given Reddy's experience and his socio-justice background, the India Alliance hopes to be in a strong position this election.
