PM Modi Proposes BRICS Startup Fund and Early Warning Systems for Global Resilience

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially commenced the primary open session of the BRICS summit held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. This significant gathering was organized under the comprehensive theme of Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth, while the session aimed at establishing a strong framework for the future of global development through the pillars of strength, innovation, and collaborative efforts. During his keynote address at the open session, Prime Minister Modi introduced a strategic proposal for the creation of a BRICS Startup Fund. He articulated a vision where BRICS transcends being a mere coalition of nations, advocating for the active inclusion of common citizens and various institutions within the framework of the organization.

Addressing Global Crises and Interconnectedness

The Prime Minister highlighted the profound impact that escalating global tensions are having on the daily lives of people across the world. He noted that the recent history of global pandemics, climate-induced disasters, and significant disruptions in international supply chains has underscored the deep interconnectedness of all nations, while prime Minister Modi pointed out that a crisis originating in one geographical location has the potential to ripple across the globe and affect all other countries. In light of these challenges, India has placed a strong emphasis on ensuring that BRICS nations are adequately prepared to manage and mitigate such crises. As part of this initiative, an agreement has been reached to establish the BRICS Integrated Early Warning System, which is specifically designed for the early detection and prevention of infectious diseases. On top of that, the member nations have developed Early Warning Data Integration Guidelines to streamline the response to various types of disasters.

The Four Pillars of the BRICS Vision

During the session, Prime Minister Modi outlined that under India's leadership and guidance, all efforts have been structured around four fundamental pillars: Vigilance, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability. He expressed his gratitude to the member nations for their cooperation and support, which has allowed the shared vision of the bloc to be translated into diverse forms of practical cooperation. A key development mentioned was the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Operation Framework. This framework is intended to make global supply chains more reliable and resilient, ensuring that they can withstand future shocks and maintain the flow of essential goods and services across borders.

Empowerment Through BRICS Connect and MSME Support

To further strengthen the economic and social fabric of the member nations, Prime Minister Modi discussed the role of the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework in enhancing supply chain stability. He also detailed the proposal for the BRICS Incubator Network and the Startup Innovation Fund, which are designed to bridge the gap between startups across the member countries. Another major initiative highlighted was BRICS Connect, which aims to focus on skill development, employment generation, and the expansion of opportunities for women, while to support small-scale entrepreneurs, the BRICS MSME Portal has been launched. This portal is intended to provide small businesses with essential information, access to finance, and pathways to new international markets. On top of that, the Prime Minister mentioned that BRICS nations would share their experiences and best practices to improve urban mobility and movement within cities, ensuring a better quality of life for urban populations.
