Punjab Big Move: ₹10 Lakh Free Health Cover for Every Family Announced

The Punjab government has launched the 'Mukhyamantri Swasthya Yojana', providing ₹10 lakh free medical treatment annually to every family in the state. Announced by Arvind Kejriwal and CM Bhagwant Mann, this scheme aims to provide high-quality healthcare to all citizens.

In a landmark decision aimed at revolutionizing the healthcare landscape of the state, the Punjab government has officially rolled out a massive health insurance scheme. Under the newly launched 'Mukhyamantri Swasthya Yojana', every family in Punjab is now eligible for free medical treatment worth up to ₹10 lakh per year, while this initiative is expected to provide a significant safety net for millions of residents who often struggle with rising medical costs.

Grand Launch in Mohali

The scheme was formally inaugurated during a high-profile event in Mohali, while arvind Kejriwal, the National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi CM, joined Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to mark this historic occasion. Addressing the gathering, Kejriwal stated that the health of the citizens is the government's topmost priority and this scheme is a testament to their commitment to the 'Aam Aadmi'.

Fulfilling the 'Kejriwal Ki Guarantee'

During his speech, Arvind Kejriwal highlighted that this move is the fulfillment of a major pre-poll promise. He remarked, "During my earlier visits to Punjab, health was the biggest concern for the people. Previous governments cited a lack of funds as an excuse for not implementing such schemes. However, we've proven that with the right intent, everything is possible. What couldn't be achieved in 75 years, our government has delivered in just four years.

Strengthening Public Health Infrastructure

The Punjab government emphasized that the scheme is backed by a strong improvement in the state's medical infrastructure. Efforts are being made to ensure that government hospitals are well-equipped with modern technology and a sufficient number of doctors, while the goal is to make public healthcare so efficient that people no longer feel the need to visit expensive private clinics for basic or major treatments.

Political Will Over Foreign Trips

Taking a swipe at political rivals, Kejriwal praised CM Bhagwant Mann's dedication. He noted that while many Chief Ministers often prioritize foreign tours, Mann has stayed on the ground to oversee the distribution of health cards and the implementation of welfare schemes. He emphasized that the focus remains on the welfare of the Punjabi people rather than personal leisure.

Crackdown on Drug Trafficking

The event also touched upon the sensitive issue of drug abuse in Punjab. Kejriwal reiterated the government's 'zero tolerance' policy against drugs, while he mentioned that the administration has taken bold steps by arresting influential figures involved in the drug trade. He assured the public that the fight against the drug menace would continue until the state is completely 'Nasha Mukt' (drug-free).

Implementation and Accessibility

To ensure the benefits reach every household, the government will issue specialized health cards. These cards will allow families to avail of cashless treatment at both government and empanelled private hospitals. The administration plans to organize local camps across villages and cities to facilitate easy. Registration for all eligible residents, ensuring no one is left behind in this healthcare revolution.
