Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rabri Devi has been served a formal notice by the state administration to vacate her long-standing government residence located at 10 Circular Road in Patna. This bungalow has served as the primary residence for the Lalu Prasad Yadav family and the strategic headquarters for the RJD for several decades. Upon receiving the notice, Rabri Devi expressed strong resentment and issued a defiant challenge to the authorities, while she stated that she wouldn't vacate the premises voluntarily and told the administration to call the security forces if they wished to remove her from the house.
A Political Landmark in Patna
The residence at 10 Circular Road isn't merely a house but has been the nerve center of Bihar's politics for nearly twenty years. Situated in a high-security VIP zone near the Chief Minister's official residence and the Raj Bhavan, this bungalow has witnessed numerous historical political decisions and strategic meetings of the RJD, while for party workers and leaders, the address is synonymous with the party's identity. The notice marks the potential end of an era for the Lalu family at this specific location, which has been their home and political base for a significant period. Interestingly, a similar notice was previously issued to Rabri Devi in November 2025, and the matter has once again become a central point of political discussion in the state.
New Allotment and Government Stance
According to official reports, the 10 Circular Road bungalow has now been allotted to Nand Kishore Ram, the Minister for Animal and Fisheries Resources. The Bihar government maintains that this move is part of a standard administrative process following housing allotment rules. Officials have requested Rabri Devi to relocate to the government residence at 39 Harding Road, which has been allocated to her in her capacity as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council. Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar commented on the situation, stating that the government has established specific rules that must be followed by everyone, especially public representatives, while he emphasized that the law applies to all and the transition should happen according to the set guidelines.
Political Backlash and Allegations
The RJD has reacted sharply to the eviction notice, labeling it as a politically motivated decision. Party spokesperson Shakti Yadav alleged that while the Building Construction Minister is a sensible individual, the decision reflects the increasing influence of the BJP at 1 Ane Marg. His comments were directed towards JDU leader Vijay Kumar Sinha, suggesting that the move is aimed at targeting the opposition, while Also, Rabri Devi's daughter, Rohini Acharya, had previously expressed her anger over such notices on social media. She stated that the government's top priority seems to be insulting Lalu Prasad, whom she described as the messiah of millions. She argued that while the government could remove him from a house, they couldn't remove him from the hearts of the people, and urged the authorities to consider his health and political stature.
