Jaipur: The Rajasthan government on Friday banned spitting of chewable items in public, in view of the significant rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

In a notification issued on Friday, the government said in view of the coronavirus pandemic, the spitting of tobacco and non-tobacco products such as paan, paan masala, gutka and tobacco in public is prohibited.

Anyone found spitting such items would be liable to face prosecution, fines, and punishment, the government circular said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced Rs 50 lakh insurance for all corona warriors in case of their death on duty.

Ashok Gehlot also ordered stringent action against anyone harassing or assaulting the corona warriors. The development came amid reports that many workers busy in carrying out surveys in corona-affected areas were subjected to harassment and assaults.

Ashok Gehlot assured full protection to cops, doctors, health workers and anyone involved in fighting coronavirus and warned anyone creating hurdles with severe punitive actions.
