Satya Niketan Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises To 6, CCTV Footage Surfaces

A CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, capturing the terrifying moment the structure collapsed, followed by a massive cloud of dust engulfing the narrow lane and surrounding area.

Rescue Operations and Casualties

As per the information provided by the authorities and rescue teams, a total of 11 people have been successfully rescued from the debris so far. The collapsed structure has been identified as P-14, Satya Niketan. It was part of a rehabilitation colony and occupied an area of approximately 55 square yards. The property consisted of a basement, a ground floor, and four additional floors above it, while records suggest that the building was constructed in the 1990s. Interestingly, the MCD stated that there were no prior records of booking or sealing for this specific property, and no complaints regarding any construction work on the premises had been received by the department previously.

Strict Orders from Delhi Mayor

Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi issued a stern statement regarding the incident on Sunday evening. He emphasized that those responsible for the Satya Niketan building collapse wouldn't be spared under any circumstances, while the Mayor has ordered that all illegal constructions exceeding four floors must be sealed immediately across the jurisdiction. Plus, he directed that strict action be taken against guilty officials, including their immediate dismissal from service. These orders have been implemented with immediate effect to prevent such tragedies in the future and to ensure accountability within the administrative ranks.

Magisterial Inquiry Ordered by CM Rekha Gupta

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken serious note of the tragedy and ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter to uncover the sequence of events leading to the collapse. She has also directed the authorities to register an FIR against the owner of the building for negligence.
