Ravi Shastri: Former India coach Ravi Shastri has called for a reduction in the number of T20 matches in view of the scheduling issue in international cricket. South Africa decided to pull out of the three-match ODI series against Australia in January 2023 to ensure their players were available for the upcoming new domestic T20 tournament in the country.

Shastri raised a big demand

England's Test captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes found it difficult to play in all three formats, so he announced his retirement from ODI cricket at the age of 31 after the first match against South Africa. Shastri is currently in the United Kingdom as a member of the Sky Sports commentary team. He believes that bilateral T20 matches should be reduced.

T20 matches should be played less

Shastri said in an episode of Vaughan and Tuffers podcast, 'I would ask to reduce the number of bilateral series, especially in T20 cricket. Franchise cricket can be encouraged, be it in a country like India, West Indies or Pakistan. Shastri, a former India all-rounder and a member of the 1983 Cricket World Cup winning team, further called for the creation of two divisions in Test cricket for the future of the longest format of the game.
