IPL 2024 GT vs MI : Gujarat Titans have started their campaign with a win in the IPL 2024 season under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill. In the first match of this season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat defeated Mumbai Indians by 6 runs in the last over in a thrilling match. Umesh Yadav stopped Mumbai from winning by taking 2 wickets in the last over. In this way, Hardik Pandya's start as the captain of Mumbai was not good and his own old partner defeated him. In this way, for the 11th consecutive time, Mumbai failed to win the first match of the season.

For Gujarat, captain Shubhman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha made a fast start and scored 27 runs in just 3 overs, out of which 20 runs came in 2 overs of Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya. Mumbai made some comeback in the fourth over, when Jasprit Bumrah provided the first breakthrough. Bumrah, playing in IPL for the first time after the 2022 season, bowled Saha on his sixth ball. Captain Shubman Gill (31) played a fast innings but Piyush Chawla made him his victim.

Bumrah changed the game in one over

From here David Miller and Sai Sudarshan were leading the innings and it seemed that both would give a strong finish for the team but Bumrah wreaked havoc in the 17th over. The star pacer spoiled the situation of Gujarat by taking the wickets of both in the same over. In the end, Rahul Tewatia scored 22 runs quickly and took the team to 168 runs. Looking at this pitch, it seemed a very small score and in such a situation this score did not seem very difficult for Mumbai.

However, Mumbai's beginning was exactly the opposite. Ishan Kishan, playing a major cricket match for the first time since November 2023, was out in the first over itself without opening his account. Omarzai dismissed him. Naman Dheer, who was making his debut in IPL, stole 18 runs by hitting a boundary in the next over of Omarzai, but in the same over, Omarzai gave him back as well. From here Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis settled down and both started hitting fours and sixes.

Rohit Sharma, who was playing only as a batsman for the first time in the last 11 seasons, batted brilliantly and soon took the team beyond 100 runs. Brewis also hit some excellent shots during this period and along with Rohit added 77 runs. From here, Mumbai's victory seemed easy but as soon as Rohit was out, the pace of runs stopped. Tilak Verma and Brewis were seen struggling to score runs against the spinners. Mumbai needed 48 runs in 6 overs and had 7 wickets in hand but in the 18th over, Mohit Sharma made a comeback for Gujarat by dismissing Tim David.

After this, Mumbai needed 29 runs in 2 overs but debutant fast bowler Spencer Johnson made the path difficult for Mumbai by taking the wickets of first Tilak Verma and then Gerald Kotjia in the 19th over. Mumbai needed 19 runs in the last over. Captain Hardik Pandya put pressure on Gujarat by hitting a six on the first ball of Umesh Yadav and a four on the second, but Umesh sealed Mumbai's defeat by taking 2 wickets in the next 2 balls. Ultimately the Mumbai team could score only 162 runs.
