PoK Protest: A police officer was killed while more than 100 people were injured in violent clashes between security forces and protesters agitating against the high prices of wheat flour and electricity in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Most of the injured are policemen. This information was given in media reports on Sunday. Even before this, such protests have been seen in PoK.

According to the report of Dawn newspaper, there were clashes between the police and rights movement activists in the disputed area on Saturday and the entire area was blocked. Shops were kept closed. Mirpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kamran Ali told Dawn.com that sub-inspector Adnan Qureshi died after being shot in the chest in Islamgarh city. Qureshi was deployed there along with other policemen to stop a rally going to Muzaffarabad via Kotli and Poonch districts.

Violent clashes took place in Muzaffarabad

The Superintendent of Police said that this rally was taken out under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). Amid the strike on Friday, violent clashes took place between police and protesters in different areas of Muzaffarabad, the capital of PoK. Eyewitnesses said there was a complete strike in Muzaffarabad division and Poonch division. The regional government has called in a large number of police personnel to prevent large-scale protests.

Police fired tear gas shells

SSP Yasin Baig said that after the protesters started pelting stones and throwing bottles, the police released tear gas shells and fired in the air in some areas. Kotli SSP Mir Muhammad Abid said at least 78 policemen were injured in "attacks by miscreants under the guise of protest" in the district.
