The important meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) started at 10 am today. Congress President Sonia Gandhi, during the meeting, targeted the leaders of the party's 'G23' group, saying that she is the permanent president of the party and there is no need to take recourse to the media to talk to them. (CWC) also told in the meeting that the process of election of the President was to be completed by June 30, but due to the Corona epidemic, it had to be postponed and now its outline will be presented.

Referring to the upcoming assembly elections, the Congress President said, "We will face many challenges, but if we stay united and disciplined and focus only on the interest of the party, I am sure we will do well." It also informed that preparations have started for the assembly elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.

'I have always appreciated candor'

Referring to the organizational elections, Sonia Gandhi said, 'The entire organization wants the Congress to be strong again. But for this it is necessary that there should be unity and the interest of the party should be kept supreme. Above all there is a need for self-control and discipline. Sonia Gandhi said that due to the Corona crisis, the deadline for the election of the President had to be extended. In the last two years, many colleagues and especially the youth leaders have taken up the responsibility of leading and taking the policies of the party to the people.

Giving advice to the G23 leaders, he said, 'I have always appreciated candor. There is no need to talk to me through the media. That's why we all have open and honest discussions here. But what goes outside this boundary should be a collective decision of the CWC. The responsibility of doing this rests with the Centre.

'Farmers Movement Reflects BJP's Thinking'

Targeting the BJP government and referring to the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, he said that it shows the BJP's thinking about the farmers' movement. And the CWC meeting is taking place in the backdrop of several leaders leaving the party in recent months.

Recently, senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kapil Sibal had demanded to convene a meeting of the CWC. Azad had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi urging her to convene an immediate meeting of the Congress Working Committee to discuss matters related to the party. It was said that this situation should be discussed by convening a meeting of the Congress Working Committee and organizational elections should be held.
