In a significant legal development in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Iqra Hasan, the Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament from Kairana. The action stems from a protest that escalated into a road blockade, causing significant disruption to public order and traffic management. Along with the Member of Parliament, six other individuals have been specifically named in the FIR, while a group of 20 to 25 unidentified persons has also been included as accused in the case. This incident has its roots in the death of a youth named Monu, a resident of Jasala village in Shamli district, which has recently acquired a political dimension and led to heightened tensions in the region.
Details of the Incident and Police Action
The case was officially registered based on a formal complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar Sharma. According to the details provided in the FIR, the incident occurred on May 19. At approximately 2:15 PM, the Civil Lines police post in-charge received urgent information regarding a group of people staging a protest and blocking the road directly in front of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) office. Upon receiving this information, a police team immediately rushed to the spot to assess the situation and restore order in the busy administrative area of Saharanpur.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found Kairana MP Iqra Hasan leading a group of supporters. Among those identified at the site were former State Minister Mangeram Kashyap, as well as individuals named Tejpal Singh, Ajay, Anuj, Shishpal, and Satyapal. These individuals, along with a crowd of 20 to 25 unidentified supporters, were reportedly creating a commotion and had completely halted the flow of traffic on the main road in front of the DIG's office. The police team attempted to mediate and requested the protesters to clear the road to allow the public to pass, but the FIR states that the group refused to comply with the instructions and continued their demonstration.
Legal Charges and Obstruction of Duty
The FIR highlights that the traffic police present at the location made several attempts to clear the blockade and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles. However, the protesters continued their demonstration and created hurdles, which directly interfered with the performance of official duties by the police and administrative staff. This obstruction led to a complete standstill of traffic in the area, causing significant inconvenience to the general public and hindering government operations during peak hours. The police noted that the refusal to move despite repeated warnings constituted a violation of public order regulations.
Consequently, the police have invoked several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused. The FIR has been lodged under BNS sections 191 (2), 221, 132, and 126 (2). The named accused in this legal action include MP Iqra Hasan, Mangeram Kashyap, Tejpal Singh, Ajay, Anuj, Shishpal, and Satyapal Singh. The inclusion of 20 to 25 unknown individuals ensures that the investigation can expand to identify other participants in the blockade through available video evidence. The police are currently investigating the matter further to determine the full extent of the violation and the roles played by each individual involved in the protest outside the DIG office, which was organized in response to the death of Monu from Jasala village.
