India / Sukhbir Singh Badal's SUV attacked in Punjab, SAD says 3 injured in firing

Jalalabad: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal's vehicle was allegedly attacked by Congress' goons in Punjab's Jalalabad area on Tuesday. A video of the incident has been accessed by ANI. In the video, several people were seen attacking Badal's car with stones and many attackers were also armed with sticks.

SAD claimed that Congress goons were behind the attack. Three SAD workers have reportedly received bullet injuries.

Badal's media advisor Jangveer Singh accused the Congress of attacking the Akali workers, who were led by son of ruling party MLA Raminder Singh Awla.

"Congress goons stoned SAD president's vehicle, fired and injured two Akali workers," alleged Jangveer Singh.

He also accused the police of remaining a "mute-spectator" during the whole incident.

'Police backed Congress goons today made an attempt on the life of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Three party workers who jumped into the president's rescue received bullet injuries, SAD said.

Meanwhile, SAD leader Parambans Singh Romana alleged that Congress workers also fired from their guns.

Badal's car was attacked when he had gone to Jalalabad SDM's office for accompanying his party candidates to file nomination for the upcoming Punjab Municipal elections.

The violent incident reportedly happened when SAD members and Congress workers allegedly had heated exchange which led to the clash between the two groups.

Meanwhile, senior police officials have reached the spot and are investigating the sequence of events which led to the clash.

Some reports also said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress workers had also clashed on Monday.

Eight municipal corporations and 109 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in Punjab will witness elections on February 14.
