India / Supreme Court told Bullet Train as a national project rejected the appeal

New Delhi. While hearing the land acquisition case for the bullet train project, the Supreme Court said that it is a national project. The Supreme Court dismissed Godrej & Boyce's appeal against the Bombay High Court order upholding the land acquisition. The Supreme Court has definitely given this liberty to the company that it can definitely apply to the concerned authority to increase the compensation. In fact, in the High Court, Godrej & Boyce challenged the acquisition process initiated by the Maharashtra government and NHSRCL in Vikhroli for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. The High Court had also upheld the land acquisition. The company challenged the High Court's decision in the Supreme Court.

CJI Chandrachud told Mukul Rohatgi, the lawyer representing Godrej & Boyce, 'The water has flowed a lot. The possession has been taken and the construction has started. You can apply for an increase in compensation.' In fact, the Bombay High Court, while hearing, found it correct that there was no irregularity or illegality while acquiring land for this project. The High Court had said that public interest is greater than personal interest. This is a matter related to national interest.

No illegal act was done during land acquisition

The matter pertains to land acquisition under the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. The Bombay High Court had said during the hearing that no illegal work has been done during the land acquisition. While filing a petition before the Bombay High Court by the company, it was said that the action for land acquisition was initiated in 2019. Expired in 2020. It took a long time, so the amount of compensation given is not appropriate.
