In a significant development regarding the murder case of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant (PA) to West Bengal's Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a major breakthrough. The investigation has uncovered a massive blunder committed by the local police, who had previously arrested the wrong individual in connection with this high-profile crime. The CBI has now apprehended the actual mastermind and primary planner of the murder from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 4.
The Identity Confusion and Police Negligence
The case took a dramatic turn when it was revealed that the local police had arrested an innocent man due to a case of mistaken identity. Based on initial inputs provided by the Bengal Police, an individual named Raj Singh was taken into custody from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, by the local police. Following this, the Bengal Police formally arrested him and secured 13 days of police custody. However, the CBI's subsequent probe established that this Raj Singh wasn't the person involved in the conspiracy. During the period of the crime, the family of the wrongly arrested Raj Singh had consistently maintained his innocence, claiming that he was present in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, at the time of the incident. The CBI presented these findings before the court, leading to the release of the innocent Raj Singh who had been wrongfully detained due to the identification error.
Arrest of the Real Mastermind from Muzaffarnagar
The CBI's intensive investigation led them to the real culprit, identified as Rajkumar, who also goes by the name Raj Singh. He was tracked down and arrested in Muzaffarnagar, while according to the CBI, Rajkumar is the primary planner and the main accused behind the murder of Chandranath Rath. The agency informed the court that the confusion arose because the real mastermind shared the same alias as the innocent man previously arrested by the local police. This arrest marks a pivotal moment in the case, as the CBI has now secured the individual responsible for orchestrating the entire crime.
Details of Other Arrests and the Investigation
Apart from the arrest of the mastermind, the investigation has seen other significant developments, while earlier, based on Bengal Police inputs, two other individuals were arrested from Buxar in Bihar. These suspects have been identified as Mayank Mishra and Vicky Maurya. On top of that, the CBI has recently conducted another operation in Banaras, leading to the arrest of a man named Vinay Rai. With these developments, the total number of people arrested in connection with the Chandranath Rath murder case has reached 4. The CBI continues to piece together the evidence to ensure a foolproof case against the conspirators, while the release of the wrongly accused man highlights the critical role of the central agency in correcting the procedural lapses of the local police.
