Assembly elections / Third phase elections in Assam-Bengal today, while voting in Kerala-Tamil Nadu, Puducherry as well

Delhi. The third phase of voting is going to be held today in the 5 States Assembly Election elections that began on March 27. Third phase voting will be done in West Bengal (West Bengal) and Assam (Assam) elections. Apart from this, there will also be Tuesday voting in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. In these three states / union territories, the voting process will be completed in all the seats in one phase. On the other hand, in Assam, there will be voting for the third and last phase. After this, West Bengal is the only state where five phases of voting will take place after today. Voting will also be held on 10, 17, 22 and 29 April in Bengal. The results of these five states will be released simultaneously on May 2.

Tight security arrangements have been made in all states in view of voting. The Election Commission has made special arrangements for the polling to be held on Tuesday amid the rising outbreak of Corona. Recall that on 26 February, while announcing the election date in 5 states, the Commission said that it has increased the number of booths to follow the Corona Protocol.


West Bengal

Talking about West Bengal, there will be voting on 31 seats here. These include Hooghly (8), Howrah (7), South 24 Parganas (16). 832 companies of central security forces have been deployed in the state for security purposes. Of these, 214 Quick Response Teams will be protecting in phase. There are 205 candidates in the fray in this phase. A maximum of 11 candidates are in the fray on the Hymond Harbor seat. The high profile candidate in this phase includes BJP's Swapan Dasgupta, who is contesting from Tarakeswar seat. Section 144 has been imposed in the entire state to avoid any untoward incident in the election.

Assam

At the same time, the last phase of voting will be held in Assam today. A total of 337 candidates are in the fray for 40 Vidhan Sabha seats. These seats fall in 12 districts of the state. In this phase, the fate of Hemant Biswa Sarma, also called Chanakya of BJP in the North East, will be decided. He is contesting from Jalukbari seat. The maximum number of 15 candidates are in the fray in Guwahati assembly seat.


Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

Apart from this, voting will be done in 140 seats in Kerala, 234 seats in Tamil Nadu and 30 seats in Puducherry. Heavy deployment of central security forces has been done in all these states.
