India-Turkey Relation / Turkey dug its own grave by being hostile towards India! Its status revealed

Turkey has had to pay a heavy price for messing with India. Due to the controversial statement on “Operation Sindoor” and support to Pakistan, Indians started the #BoycottTurkey trend. In May 2025, the number of Indian tourists declined by 24%, causing huge economic losses to Türkiye's tourism industry.

India-Turkey Relation: Turkey's anti-India stance is now costing it economically. Taking Pakistan's side during "Operation Sindoor" and the statements made against India hurt the sentiments of Indians. As a result, Indians started trending #BoycottTurkey on social media, which directly affected Turkey's tourism industry.

24% decline in May 2025

According to reports, there has been a massive decline of 24% in the number of Indian tourists visiting Turkey in May 2025. This decline happened within just one month, which is considered a big warning for Turkey in terms of tourists coming from any country. While the number of tourists coming from other countries has remained stable or increased slightly, the decline from India is an accurate indication that the boycott campaign has shown effect.

Big setback for India

India has been an emerging and important tourism market for Turkey. Indian tourists prefer destinations like Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya and Trabzon and spend generously on accommodation, shopping, and local services. This is why Indian tourists are classified as high-value visitors.

But now Indian travel agencies have either removed Turkey tour packages or have cut them down drastically. Many travel companies have started diverting customers to alternative European and Middle East destinations.

Economic shock in billions

According to experts, if we look at the spending done by Indian tourists in Turkey every year, then Turkey's local economy may have to suffer losses worth billions of rupees due to this decline. Especially the hotel industry, transportation, guides and local markets have been deeply affected by this.

This is just the beginning!

Analysts believe that this loss is just the beginning. A huge market like India turning away from Turkish tourism can affect not only the tourism sector but also other areas - such as trade, investment and diplomatic relations.

If Turkey does not soften its foreign policy towards India, this decline may be even faster in the future and Turkey will have to work harder to improve its image at the global level.
