Nitin Gadkari: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has strongly denied the reports of toll tax being collected from two-wheelers. On Thursday, he clarified on the social media platform 'X' that the government has no such plans. Gadkari wrote, "No decision is proposed to collect toll tax from two-wheelers. They will continue to be completely exempted from toll." Gadkari's statement has put an end to the speculations that were claiming that toll will also be collected on bikes and scooters from July 15. According to the information, when a customer buys a two-wheeler, the toll tax amount is collected in lump sum at the same time. Due to this, no additional charge is taken from them at the toll plaza. Under the current system, toll is collected on the national highway only from four-wheelers and above. Fastag based annual pass scheme Along with this, Gadkari has also announced a new scheme. He informed that the Fastag based annual toll pass scheme will start from August 15, 2025. Under this scheme, vehicle owners will be able to buy an annual pass for Rs 3000, which will allow them to cross the toll plaza 200 times. This pass will be valid only at the toll plazas of NHAI and National Expressway (NE), while it will not be applicable on toll booths under state highways.Highlighting the objective of this scheme, Gadkari said that this policy has been brought to overcome the problems arising due to toll plazas located within a radius of 60 kilometers. Through this, toll payment has been made single and economical. He said that this will not only reduce waiting time and jams, but will also reduce disputes at toll plazas. Overall, this scheme will provide a fast, seamless and dispute-free travel experience to millions of private vehicle owners.
