There is a news of relief for those traveling on National Highway. The central government will introduce a Fastag based annual pass from August 15, 2025, which will cost ₹ 3,000. This pass will be for private vehicles and will allow 200 toll crossings. This will make the journey smooth, cheap and stress-free.

Annual Toll Pass: A big relief news has come for the private drivers who travel frequently on the National Highway in the country. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Wednesday that the government is going to start the facility of FASTag based annual pass. The price of this pass will be Rs 3,000 and this scheme will be implemented across the country from August 15, 2025.

What is this annual pass?

This annual pass is specially designed for non-commercial i.e. private vehicles. Under this, vehicle owners will be able to pass through any National Highway toll plaza a maximum of 200 times in a year without paying every time. This will not only increase the convenience of travel but will also save both time and money.

Giving information on his social media platform X, Gadkari said that this scheme has been brought in view of the needs of private travelers and the hassle caused by repeated payments. The process of obtaining the pass and its renewal will be completely online and for this, a separate link will be made available on the websites of NHAI and MoRTH and the 'Rajasthan Yatra' app.

What will be the benefits of the new system?

Gadkari said that this new scheme will solve the old issues that were constantly troubling the passengers living around the toll plazas connected to the highway. Especially at the toll plazas falling within the radius of 60 km, the local people had to pay toll repeatedly, which increased disputes, traffic and waiting time.

Through this annual pass:

  • The process of toll payment will become more simple
  • Vehicle congestion and time wastage at the toll plaza will be reduced
  • Transparency and convenience will increase through a single digital transaction
  • Public opposition will be reduced at toll plazas located at a short distance
How much protection will there be?

At present, private drivers who pass through a particular toll plaza repeatedly can opt for a monthly pass, which costs around Rs 340 per month i.e. about Rs 4,080 annually. In contrast, getting the facility of 200 trips for a year for Rs 3,000 is an affordable option.

Why was the new system necessary?

Government figures show that in the financial year 2023-24, the contribution of private cars in the total toll collection of Rs 55,000 crore was only Rs 8,000 crore. While their share in highway traffic is about 53%. From 6 am to 10 pm, the number of private vehicles reaches 60%, increasing the pressure on the toll plaza. The new pass will reduce this pressure and the traffic system will improve.
