Uniform Civil Code / UCC bill introduced in Uttarakhand Assembly, know what will change

Uniform Civil Code: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami introduced the UCC bill in the Assembly on Tuesday. CM Dhami introduced this bill amidst uproar by opposition MPs. After this, the proceedings of Uttarakhand Assembly were adjourned till 2 pm. Let us tell you that if this bill is passed in the Uttarakhand Assembly, then it will become the second state in the country to implement UCC.

UCC is already in force in Goa. Let us tell you that the assembly session has started in Uttarakhand from Monday. On Monday, the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved this bill under the chairmanship of CM Dhami. Congress and Muslim organizations are against this bill. Congress says that Uttarakhand is being used for experiment. At the same time, Muslim organizations are also expressing their objection on this.

On the UCC bill presented in the Uttarakhand Assembly, Uttarakhand BJP MLA Shiv Arora said that this is a historic moment for us. What could be greater happiness than UCC? It gives equal rights to people. Chief Minister Dhami started it today. Before the introduction of the bill, CM Dhami had said in a conversation with the media that this bill was awaited for a long time. Please note that Section 144 has been imposed around the Assembly.

What did former CM Harish Rawat say on UCC bill?

Regarding the UCC bill, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat said that CM Dhami's eagerness is understandable. UCC was used to form the government. Rawat said that the central government should have brought UCC. Now other states will also try to bring UCC.

It is being told that this step of Dhami government can prove to be a game changer before the 2024 elections. UCC proposes equal civil law for all communities irrespective of caste and religion in the state. It will provide a legal framework for equal marriage, divorce, land, property and inheritance laws for all citizens.

  • A ban on polygamy has been proposed.

  • People of all religions will have to register their marriage.
  • Marriage age for girls is 18 years
  • Age of marriage for boys is 21 years
  • The right to adopt children has been advocated among people of all religions.
  • There should be a ban on Iddat and Halala among Muslims.
  • If there is a live-in relationship, it will be necessary to inform your parents about it.
  • There should be uniform law and order regarding divorce in all religions.
  • There should be a ban on giving divorce under personal law.
  • Daughter has equal rights in inheritance
2 lakh 33 thousand people gave their views

A five-member committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai had submitted the draft of four volumes and 740 pages on UCC to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday. After this, the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved the UCC proposal on Sunday. 2 lakh 33 thousand people had given their views regarding UCC. The views of about 10 percent of the families have been included in the draft.

BJP has majority in the house

BJP has majority in the House, hence the passing of the UCC bill is considered certain. BJP has 47 MLAs in the House. Besides, it also has the support of two independent MLAs. The UCC Drafting Committee has held 72 meetings. It is believed that traditional customs have not been tampered with in the draft and this entire draft will be women-centric. It is also expected that this will put a stop to polygamy.

Game changer decision of 2024 elections

This step of Dhami government can prove to be a game changer before the 2024 elections. Some organizations are against the bill. The government has made it clear that this bill will not harm anyone. Meanwhile, in view of the protests, Section 144 has been imposed around the Assembly. Barricading has been installed on the roads leading to the assembly.
