Rajasthan News: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami introduced the much-awaited Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the state assembly on Tuesday. This bill has a provision to make practices like polygamy and 'Halala' a criminal offense and to give inheritance to the children of 'live-in' couples like biological children. Meanwhile, a cabinet minister of the Bhajanlal government of Rajasthan has given a big statement saying that preparations are being made to implement Uniform Civil Code in the state and discussions are to be held about it. She also gave a statement on the ongoing controversy over hijab in the state for the last few days.

‘Still preparing to implement UCC’

Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Kanhaiyalal Chaudhary said that Uttarakhand has become the first state to implement UCC and for this we congratulate it. Chaudhary said, 'We are also preparing to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Only one law will prevail, two laws cannot prevail. It is very important to implement Uniform Civil Code in India. We are going to talk to the Chief Minister and discuss its implementation.' While speaking on Hijab, Chaudhary said that dress code is being followed everywhere, hence Hijab should be removed.

BJP had promised to implement UCC

Let us tell you that making an Act on UCC and implementing it in Uttarakhand was one of the biggest promises made by BJP during the 2022 assembly elections. After creating history by winning the state for the second consecutive time, after assuming power in March 2022, in the first meeting of the cabinet, BJP had approved the formation of an expert committee to prepare the draft of UCC. After the enactment of the law, Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to implement UCC after independence. UCC has been in force in Goa since the days of Portuguese rule.
