Brij Bhushan Singh: Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is going to get a new president after 12 years. The tenure of BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, who is facing allegations of sexual harassment, has come to an end and now elections are being held for the new president. Four candidates have filed nomination papers for the post of President of Wrestling Federation. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh may not be in the electoral fray, but wants to maintain his hold on the Federation. In such a situation, his close friends Sanjay Singh and Jai Prakash have been fielded, while Dushyant Sharma and Anita Sheoran are trying their luck in front of them. In such a situation, it has to be seen whether Brij Bhushan Singh's dominance over the wrestling association remains or will his supremacy of one and a half decade end?

Brij Bhushan's close nomination

Sanjay Singh, a close aide of Brij Bhushan Singh, filed his nomination for the post of President on Monday, the last day of nomination for the Wrestling Federation elections. Apart from this, he has also filed the nomination of another close friend of his, Jai Prakash, so that if Sanjay Singh is canceled due to any reason, then one candidate remains in the fray. Although, earlier there was talk of contesting the election of Madhya Pradesh Wrestling Association President Mohan Yadav for the President, but he could not get the support of the voters of the state units. In such a situation, Brij Bhushan Singh fielded Sanjay Singh at the last moment.

Anita Sheoran is also contesting the election

Darshan Lal has filed nomination for the post of general secretary and Satyapal Deshwal for the post of treasurer. Both these leaders are also considered close to Brij Bhushan Singh. On the other hand, among those who have entered the fray from the rival faction, Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) secretary Prem Chand Lochab (Gujarat representative) is in the fray for the post of general secretary. Apart from this, one of the witnesses in the sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan is Anita Sheoran, whose name has been included. Apart from this, Dushyant Sharma is also in the fray.

Brijbhushan's special will handle the command of the president

Interestingly, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, former chief of the Wrestling Federation, was not ready to name Devendra Singh Kadian, Anita Sheoran and Premchand Lochab, who belong to Haryana. They wanted that the command of wrestling federation should go to Satpal Singh, president of Uttarakhand Wrestling Federation or to any other states outside Haryana. Satpal Singh is considered close to Brij Bhushan. In such a situation, the officials of the Sports Ministry and the Sports Authority of India (Sai) did not want Brij Bhushan Singh to take over as the president.

States units not supported

When consensus could not be reached on Satpal Singh's name, Brij Bhushan Singh forwarded the name of Mohan Yadav, president of Madhya Pradesh Wrestling Association, but he did not get the support of the state units. In such a situation, Sanjay Singh, who belongs to Varanasi in UP, was fielded, who filed his nomination for the post of President on Monday. Sanjay Kumar is considered close to Brij Bhushan Singh.

18 candidates for different posts

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's son-in-law Vishal Singh while talking to the media said that 18 candidates have entered the fray for different posts from our panel. Nominations have been filed for the post of one President, one Senior Vice President and one General Secretary, Treasurer along with the remaining four Vice Presidents. At the same time, Brij Bhushan Singh had said that no member from our family will contest elections, but has the support of 22 out of 25 state units. In this way, the political supremacy of Brij Bhushan Sharan is expected to continue on the wrestling association.

Brijbhushan was the president continuously for 12 years

According to the constitution of the Wrestling Federation, elections are held once in every four years. A person cannot remain on the post of president for three terms or for more than 12 years. General Secretary or Treasurer cannot remain in office for two terms or more than 8 years. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been the President of Wrestling Federation of India continuously for 12 years, due to which he cannot contest elections himself. In such a situation, he has fielded his close leaders to maintain his dominance over the wrestling association.

Female wrestlers allege sexual harassment

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was the president of the Wrestling Federation, was accused of sexual exploitation by female wrestlers. Renowned wrestlers like Olympic winner Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat took to the streets against Brij Bhushan Singh. Wrestlers staged a sit-in at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for months. Delhi Police has also registered two FIRs against Brij Bhushan in the case of sexual harassment. These days Brij Bhushan Singh is on bail. In view of the protests of women wrestlers, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had assured to conduct the elections of the wrestling association, due to which the elections are being held.

Brij Bhushan became the president of the wrestling association in 2011.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was elected the President of the Wrestling Federation in 2011 and won through voting three times in a row. In 2019, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was elected president unopposed. In this way, he has been the president four times. And this time he is making his supporters contest the elections. He clearly said on Monday that no member of my family is participating in the wrestling association elections. However, the name of Vishal Singh, who is the son-in-law of Brij Bhushan Singh and the President of Bihar Wrestling Association, is registered in the voter list. It has to be seen how Brij Bhushan Singh's dominance over the Indian Wrestling Federation continues?
