Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday launched the FASTag-based annual pass system, which will come into effect from August 15. The pass, available for Rs 3,000, will allow private cars to travel toll-free on select national highways and expressways for a year or up to 200 trips.

Annual Toll Pass: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday took a revolutionary step by launching a new Fastag based annual pass system. This facility will be implemented across the country from August 15, 2025 and its price has been kept at ₹ 3,000. With this annual pass, private vehicle owners will be able to travel repeatedly on the National Highway without paying toll every time, making the journey not only smooth but also economical.

1. What is Fastag Annual Pass?

It is a digital annual pass which is activated in Fastag. Under this, private car / jeep / van can pass through selected toll plazas of National Highway and National Expressway without payment for one year or 200 trips (whichever is earlier).

2. Where can this annual pass be purchased?

This pass can be purchased only from the Highway Yatra mobile app and the official website of NHAI. It will not be available at any bank, petrol pump or third-party portal.

3. At which toll plazas will it be valid?

This pass is valid only at the toll plazas of National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE).

On state highways or local tolls, it will work like a normal Fastag and a fee will have to be paid there.

4. What will be the validity of the annual pass?

It will be valid for one year or a maximum of 200 trips (whichever is completed first).

5. Which vehicles will get its benefit?

This pass is only for private, non-commercial vehicles (car, jeep, van). If a commercial vehicle uses it, the system will automatically deactivate it.

6. Can this pass be transferred to another vehicle?

No, this pass is valid only for the vehicle on which the Fastag has been activated. It will be deactivated if used in another vehicle.

7. Is it necessary to stick the Fastag on the glass of the vehicle?

Yes, the pass will work only when the Fastag is properly stuck on the front windshield of the vehicle.

8. If my Fastag is registered only with the chassis number, will I get a pass?

No, to get an annual pass, Fastag registered with the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) is necessary. This facility will not be available on tags registered with the chassis number.
