Yamuna Water to Revitalize Shekhawati: CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Ends 30 Year Wait

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has stated that the arrival of Yamuna water will serve as a strong foundation for the bright future of the Shekhawati region, while speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized by the Shekhawati Foundation at the Birla Auditorium in Jaipur on Monday, July 20, the Chief Minister emphasized that the districts of Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu will emerge as models of development, heritage, and trust. He asserted that the state government's resolve and dedication are becoming the cornerstone for the overall progress of Shekhawati, marking the end of a three-decade-long wait for the region's residents.

Historic Yamuna Water Agreement and Technical Details

During the event, the Chief Minister highlighted the historic Yamuna water agreement as the greatest achievement for Shekhawati. He explained that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's double-engine government, the 30 year old pending issue has finally been realized. The project involves the construction of a 295 kilometer long pipeline that will transport 1917 cusecs of Yamuna water to the region. This massive infrastructure project is expected to provide permanent relief to approximately 75 lakh people across Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu districts. The Chief Minister noted that although the agreement for Yamuna water distribution was originally signed in 1994, Rajasthan was deprived of its rights for decades. Through a policy of dialogue, dedication, and coordination, the current state government has successfully moved this long-pending issue forward within just two and a half years.

Preservation of Heritage and Tourism Development

Beyond water security, the Chief Minister detailed plans for the preservation of Shekhawati's unique cultural identity. Known for its grand havelis, world-famous frescoes, and historic architecture, the region is a hub for tourism. Under the Shekhawati Haveli Conservation Scheme, the state government has prepared a comprehensive action plan for the conservation and tourism development of 662 historic havelis in Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu. Special attention is being given to maintaining the original form and structural integrity of these heritage sites to boost the local tourism economy.

Infrastructure and Connectivity Projects

The Chief Minister also discussed the expansion of the road network to enhance connectivity. He mentioned that the Kotputli-Kishangarh Greenfield Expressway and the Bikaner-Kotputli Expressway will Importantly improve Shekhawati's links with the Delhi-NCR region and Western Rajasthan. These infrastructure developments are expected to provide new dimensions to transport, industry, agriculture, and tourism in the area. The government is working systematically on a multi-faceted approach involving energy, education, health, and agriculture alongside these connectivity projects.

Shekhawati: A Land of Bravery and Faith

Describing Shekhawati as a land of heroes, saints, martyrs, and philanthropists, the Chief Minister praised the valor of the local youth who have shown immense courage in operations like the Surgical Strike and Operation Sindoor, while he also acknowledged the contribution of the region's entrepreneurs who have established major business and corporate institutions, contributing Notably to the nation's economic growth. He specifically mentioned prominent religious and historical sites such as Khatu Shyamji, Salasar Balaji, Jeen Mata, Shakambhari Mata, Harshnath, Lohargal, Nawalgarh, Mandawa, and Dundlod, identifying them as the primary centers of Shekhawati's cultural identity.

Ceremonial Highlights and Key Attendees

The ceremony began with the chanting of Vedic mantras, during which the Chief Minister symbolically dedicated a Kalash filled with Yamuna water to the Shekhawati region, while various social, religious, and trade organizations felicitated him for the historic agreement, and women in traditional attire welcomed him with auspicious songs. Minister of State for Urban Development and Self-Governance (Independent Charge) Jhabar Singh Kharra praised the CM for paving the way for a solution to the decades-old water crisis. Former Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore termed the agreement a true tribute to former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, while vinod Kumar Goyal, President of the Shekhawati Foundation, stated that the CM's efforts would secure the future of coming generations. The event was attended by Chairman of the Soldiers Welfare Board Prem Singh Bajor, and MLAs including Kali Charan Saraf, Gordhan Verma, Harlal Saharan, Rajendra Bhambu, Subhash Meel, Gopal Sharma, Dharmpal Gurjar, and Vikram Singh Jakhal, along with representatives from various organizations.
