India-UK Relations: Amidst the worldwide turmoil on various issues ranging from Russia-Ukraine war, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to British PM Rishi Sunak on Tuesday night. According to the information, both the leaders welcomed the progress in the ongoing talks for early conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and Britain. Along with this, both the leaders also discussed many other issues.

PM Modi has also shared information about his conversation with British PM Rishi Sunak on his X handle. PM Modi said he had "good talks with UK PM Rishi Sunak. We have expressed our commitment to further strengthen the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership and work for the early conclusion of a mutually beneficial free trade agreement."

What did Rishi Sunak say?

A statement issued by the British Prime Minister's Office said that Rishi Sunak and PM Modi agreed on the importance of reaching a historic and comprehensive agreement, which will benefit both countries. According to the statement issued, the two leaders reiterated the importance of the ambitious outcome for bilateral trade, which currently stands at around £36 billion per year.

PM Modi and Rishi Sunak expressed satisfaction at the progress made between the two countries in diverse areas including trade, investment, defence, security, emerging technologies and others under the 2030 Framework. According to the statement, the two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
