Amid the hijab controversy, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has said that women keep a veil over the head and not on the mind. He has given this statement in Rajasthan today. Owaisi said, “Hijab is an essential religious practice for Muslims. It is an expression of culture. If government schools are allowing other religious symbols, why not the hijab. This is also a right of women. The woman puts the hijab on her head, not on her head.

Let us tell you that a few months ago, girls wearing hijab were barred from going to class in schools in Karnataka. After this the issue gained momentum. The matter has reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has also asked to complete the hearing on the matter by Friday.

A bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and Sudhanshu Dhulia on Monday asked the lawyers to complete their arguments on September 16. After that the state government will be given two days to present its side. Senior advocates Salman Khurshid and MH Muchhala argued on behalf of the petitioners on Monday.

Khurshid said that whatever is written in the Quran is mandatory. Khurshid showed the difference between Burqa, Hijab and Jilbab. He said that culture is important because culture leads to identity. The dress code doesn't mean I can't wear anything other than that which is important to my culture or religion.

At the same time, Muchhala said that denying entry to girl students for wearing the hijab results in denying them access to education.
