What is the 1991 controversy regarding Gyanvapi Masjid?

The controversy of the year 1991 raises questions on the existence of Gyanvapi Masjid. In fact, in 1991, a case was registered in the court, in which it was claimed that the place where the Gyanvapi Masjid has been built is the land of Kashi Vishwanath and the mosque has been built by demolishing small temples at this place.

In this case, the Hindu side had appealed that an investigation should be conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India. However, the Allahabad High Court on 9 September 2021 stayed the survey of ASI in this case.

However, there is another matter in the court regarding the land on which the mosque is built. The Vyas family of Varanasi claims that they own this land and for the last 150 years their family has been fighting in the court for the ownership of this land.
