Pahalgam Terror Attack: Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P. Chidambaram has recently made a controversial statement regarding the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which has created a stir in Indian politics. Chidambaram raised the question that there is no concrete evidence that the terrorists came from Pakistan and they could also be local. His statement has given rise to sharp reactions among the ruling party and opposition leaders.Chidambaram's statement and questionsChidambaram said in an interview, "Where are the terrorists? Why has the government not caught them? Why have they not been identified? What is the National Investigation Agency (NIA) doing in this matter? Has the NIA identified the terrorists or found out where they came from?" He further said, "As far as we know, they may be local terrorists. Why are you assuming that they came from Pakistan? There is no evidence of this."Chidambaram also targeted the government over the losses incurred during Operation Sindoor. He said, "In war, both sides suffer losses. India must have also suffered losses, but the government is hiding it. It should be brought out in the open."Political stir and opposition's attackAfter Chidambaram's statement, the ruling party and other opposition leaders reacted sharply. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam shared a video of Chidambaram's statement and wrote, "If this video is true, then Chidambaram has given a clean chit to Pakistan. Is Congress going to debate Operation Sindoor in this tone?"Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, "Chidambaram has been a former Home Minister. In the 70-year history between India and Pakistan, we have faced Pakistan's terrorist activities. TRF first took responsibility for the attack, then denied it. Pakistan speaks for TRF in the United Nations. We do not need any proof, all this is Pakistan's doing."Congress' clarification and defenseChidambaram gave clarification on social media platform X after the controversy over his statement. He wrote, "There are many types of trolls. The worst troll is the one who drowns the entire interview, picks two sentences, mutes a few words and then defames the speaker."Congress MP Manickam Tagore defended Chidambaram's statement, saying, "BJP always tries to divert attention from real issues. The real issue is the Pahalgam terror attack and the government's failure to effectively implement Operation Sindoor. We clearly say that Pakistan must stop exporting terrorism to India. Congress stands with the Army against terrorism."Reactions by other leadersSamajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav also commented on the issue. He said, "Why are terror incidents happening repeatedly under the BJP government? Where did the terrorists of the Pahalgam attack go? The government should respond to Chidambaram's statement."Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, "Chidambaram has raised this issue, only he can give more information on this."
