Punjab News: Amidst the agitation by Patwaris in Punjab regarding their demands, Chief Minister of the state Bhagwant Mann has made a big announcement. CM Mann on Saturday announced the appointment of 586 new 'Patwari' (revenue officers) on the vacant posts and said that people will not be allowed to suffer. The Chief Minister also said in a video message that 741 trainee Patwaris will be given the responsibility of working in those divisions where the posts are lying vacant. He further said that there are 710 such posts where appointment letters could not be issued due to pending police verification.

Chief Minister had received many complaints

CM Mann said that the Home Department has been directed to complete the process of police verification so that appointment letters can be given to the 710 candidates who have already appeared for the exam. He said that with these steps a total of 2,037 circles will be filled where the posts of Patwaris are lying vacant. Punjab CM also announced to implement biometric attendance of Patwaris in their offices after receiving several complaints against them. Revenue officers mainly maintain records related to land ownership. The announcement came a day after the Patwaris launched their agitation.

CM Mann had already warned

Let us tell you that the agitating Patwaris have said that they are boycotting the additional work that they are being asked to do. The Patwaris had earlier warned of a complete work stoppage from Friday, but after the Mann government invoked the East Punjab Compulsory Services (Restoration) Act, the Patwaris probably softened their stand from Thursday. Even before this, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had warned that he would not make any compromise with corruption, and the public would not be allowed to suffer due to the strike. A few days after this, CM Mann has announced new recruitments.
