Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued stringent directives regarding the upcoming observance of Muharram across the state. During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that Muharram is an occasion of mourning and grief, not a platform for the display of strength or power. He clearly stated that any form of weapon display or the use of loud, ear-splitting DJs will be strictly prohibited during the processions. The Chief Minister's instructions aim to maintain communal harmony and ensure that the religious observances are conducted within the framework of law and order.
Strict Ban on Weapons and Loud Music
In his address to senior officials, CM Yogi Adityanath highlighted that the uncontrolled use of drums, tashas, and high-decibel DJ systems wouldn't be permitted. He directed that effective control must be maintained over these elements to prevent any public disturbance. On top of that, the display of traditional or modern weapons during Muharram processions has been completely banned. The Chief Minister underscored that while the faith and sentiments of all communities must be respected, the creation of any new traditions or practices won't be acceptable under any circumstances. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disturb the peace.
Guidelines for Tazia Height and Safety
To prevent accidents and ensure public safety, the Chief Minister has set specific standards for the height of Tazias. He instructed that Tazias shouldn't exceed a height of 10 to 12 feet. This measure is intended to avoid contact with overhead electrical wires and other infrastructure, which has led to unfortunate incidents in the past. All district officials have been told to ensure that these height standards are strictly followed by the organizers of the processions. The Chief Minister reiterated that safety must be the priority during all religious gatherings.
Administrative Vigilance and Law Enforcement
The directives were issued during a high-level review of the state's law and order situation and preparations for upcoming festivals via video conferencing on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by senior officials including Divisional Commissioners, District Magistrates, Police Commissioners, Zonal Additional Director Generals of Police, Inspectors General of Police, and Superintendents of Police. CM Yogi Adityanath instructed all District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police to establish prior communication with local communities and organizers to ensure that no incidents of lawlessness occur in any district.
Significance of Muharram
Muharram is the first and a holy month of the Islamic calendar, which is deeply associated with the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. It's widely regarded as a month of sorrow and mourning, during which celebrations are avoided. The first day of this month marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri year. Muharram is one of the four sacred months in Islam and is observed with great solemnity, particularly by the Shia community, to honor the sacrifices made at the Battle of Karbala.
