Last week, on a social media post, a woman said that she was not allowed to enter the restaurant because she was wearing a sari.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has served closure notice to a sari-clad woman for allegedly not giving entry to a restaurant, as the restaurant was running without a valid business licence. After this the owner of the restaurant said that he has closed the establishment.

According to news agency PTI, SDMC officials said on Wednesday that a notice was issued to close the Akila restaurant located at Ansal Plaza in Andrews Ganj as it was operating without a valid licence. The notice of closure was issued on 24 September, which stated that the Public Health Inspector of the area, on investigation on 21 September, found that the establishment was operating in unhygienic condition without a health trade licence.

The restaurant had also illegally occupied public land. The notice issued by the SDMC said, “The Public Health Inspector again inspected the site on 24 September and found that the business was going on in the same condition. You are directed to close the business within 48 hours from the date of receipt of this notice failing which appropriate action may be taken including sealing without issuing any notice.”

The owner of the restaurant, in his reply on September 27, said that the said business has been closed immediately and will not be run without the SDMC trade license. It is worth noting that last week on a social media post, a woman had said that she was not given entry in that restaurant because she was wearing a sari. The woman had also posted a video of a scuffle with the restaurant's staff.

In this video, when a woman reached the restaurant to celebrate her daughter's birthday, she said that she was not allowed to enter the restaurant because she was wearing a sari. It can be clearly seen in the viral video that the lady of the restaurant says that only 'smart casual' can be worn.
