Delhi Election 2025: In the initial review after the results of the Delhi Assembly elections, it has become clear that there were many reasons behind the defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). After being in power in Delhi for 10 consecutive years, AAP won only 22 seats in this election, while the party's prominent leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia lost the election on their respective seats.Let us look at the three major reasons due to which the Aam Aadmi Party had to face a crushing defeat in this election:1. Middle class got relief from the Union BudgetJust before voting in Delhi, the central government presented the general budget, in which zero tax was announced to taxpayers on income of Rs 12 lakh. The middle class voter was greatly influenced by this decision and turned towards BJP instead of Aam Aadmi Party. AAP failed to correctly assess the impact of this decision and this electoral equation went against it.2. Decrease in support of slum votersIn the last three elections, slum dwellers have been the core voters of Aam Aadmi Party. But this time the party failed to maintain this support. According to sources, BJP made inroads into this section through money power and managed to pull a large vote bank. This change of slum voters proved to be a big blow for AAP.3. Last minute lapse in election strategyAccording to AAP strategists, not holding indoor meetings of the party after nomination was also an important reason for the defeat. In the previous elections, indoor meetings were effective in wooing middle class voters, but this time such strategies were relaxed at the last moment, due to which voters decisively moved away from the party.Future strategy: What will AAP do?After the defeat in the elections, Aam Aadmi Party is now working on future strategy. The party's priorities can be as follows:Focus on Punjab: Strengthening its government in Punjab and taking new strategic steps for the elections there.National expansion: Trying to increase its presence in other states outside Delhi.Role of a strong opposition: Keeping an eye on the election promises made by the BJP in Delhi and making the government accountable.Organizational reform: Bringing internal changes in the party and reactivating the workers at the grassroots level. This defeat is definitely a big setback for the Aam Aadmi Party, but if the right strategy is adopted, the party can emerge again. It will be interesting to see how its strategy changes in the upcoming elections.
