Jharkhand | The Lokpal has issued notice to JMM supremo Shibu Soren and his family in connection with illegal earnings and purchase of benami properties while in the post of coal minister. Shibu Soren will have to present his side in this matter by appearing in person or through an advocate at 11:30 a.m. on August 25. The Full Bench of Lokpal India has issued an order in this regard. The Lokpal has also sent the Preliminary Inquiry (PE) report of the CBI, copy of the complaint and notices in this case.

Complaint filed in August 2020

On August 5, 2020, a complaint was filed against Shibu Soren and his family accusing him of acquiring immeasurable assets through corruption, acquiring disproportionate assets and purchase of immovable property. After this, the Lokpal on 15 September 2020 had ordered the CBI to file a PE and submit a report in six months. The CBI had sought more time to investigate the matter, although the first PE report was submitted on March 1, 2021. On July 1, 2021, the CBI submitted the complete details of the Soren family's assets, income tax returns to the Ombudsman. The Lokpal had sent a notice to the concerned members of the Soren family seeking their favor by 8 September 2021.

The Soren family was given all the investigation reports and details of the complaint. The Lokpal had also handed over the relevant documents to him. His favor was sought by 7 March 2022. In the same year, on May 06, 2022, the party from the Soren family was sent to the CBI and sought a fresh inquiry report by June 13. The CBI had submitted the report on June 29. Considering the report sent by the CBI to be very serious, the Lokpal has now sent a notice to present the side before registering the case against the public servant.

CBI has submitted the final report

The CBI had submitted the final PE report on the Soren family's assets on June 29, 2022. The Ombudsman has found that the report is very detailed. In such a situation, the Lokpal has decided to take notice in this matter. The CBI in its PE has found the Soren family guilty of having acquired several benami assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
