New Delhi : While hearing a PIL regarding gifts received by pharmaceutical companies to doctors, the Supreme Court has sought a response from the central government. A claim has been made in the petition, which the judges were also surprised to hear. It has been said in the petition that the doctors who give the advice of medicine by taking gifts, they should also be responsible for it. For example, Dolo-650 which is often given in fever. It was said that to increase the sale of this medicine, gifts worth Rs 1 thousand crore were given to the doctors. A bench comprising Justice Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna said, "This is a very serious matter. The bench has sought a reply from the government within 10 days.

Justice Chandrachud said, "It is not good to hear this. When I had corona, I was asked to take the same medicine. This is a very serious matter. The petition was filed on behalf of Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives Association of India. Vakilal Sanjay Parik, appearing for the federation, said, Dolo gave free gifts of Rs 1,000 crore to the doctors so that their medicine could be promoted.

At the same time, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had also claimed after the raid that the drug manufacturer indulges in many unethical activities. The CBDT had said that tax evasion of Rs 300 crore was also done. The agency had raided 36 locations of Kanpi.

It has been said in the petition that if such work is done, then not only will the cases of overuse of the drug increase, but it can also adversely affect the health of the patients. Such scams also create problems with the price of medicines in the market and also unnecessary medicines. It has also been claimed in the petition that during the Corona epidemic, such drugs were promoted excessively and were supplied in the market in an unethical manner.

Earlier also the Supreme Court had sought a response from the Center in this matter but till now the affidavit was not filed. Solicitor General KM Natraj, appearing for the Centre, said that the response is almost ready. Now the matter is to be heard on September 29.
