Dhanteras, celebrated on the Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month, marks the auspicious appearance of Lord Dhanvantri, the divine physician and god of Ayurveda. It's believed that Lord Dhanvantri emerged from the Samudra Manthan (ocean churning) holding a pot of Amrit (nectar of immortality). While chanting 'Om Namo Bhagavate Dhanvantraye Vishnurupaya Namo Namah' is central, devotees can also chant the longer 'Om Namo Bhagavate Mahasudarshanaya Vasudevaya Dhanvantraye: Amritakalasha Hastaya Sarva Bhaya Vinashaya Sarva Roga Nivaranaya Triloka Pathaya Triloka Nathaya Shri Maha Vishnu Swarupa Shri Dhanvantri Swarupa Shri Shri Shri Aushadha Chakra Narayanaya Namah, while ' for deeper devotion. The puja concludes with the heartfelt recitation of Lord Dhanvantri's Aarti, invoking blessings for health and freedom from disease.
