A major development has emerged from Uttarakhand's spiritual circuit regarding entry regulations at the holy shrines. The Shri Gangotri Temple Committee, in its recent high-level meeting, unanimously. Decided to prohibit the entry of non-Hindus into the Gangotri Dham premises. This decision is aimed at preserving the sanctity and ancient traditions of the Himalayan shrine.
Restriction Extended to Mukhba Village
Suresh Semwal, Chairman of the Shri Gangotri Temple Committee, confirmed that this restriction isn't limited to the main temple alone, while it will also be strictly implemented in Mukhba, the village which serves as the winter residence of Goddess Ganga. During the winter months, when the portals of Gangotri Dham remain closed, the. Deity is worshipped in Mukhba, making it a site of immense religious significance.
Badrinath and Kedarnath to Follow Suit
Following the footsteps of the Gangotri Committee, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) is also considering a similar ban. BKTC Chairman Hemant Dwivedi stated that a formal proposal to restrict the entry of non-Hindus into Badrinath, Kedarnath, and all other temples under their jurisdiction will be introduced soon.
Upcoming Board Meeting Discussions
The proposal is expected to be tabled in the upcoming board meeting of the BKTC. If approved, it would mark a significant shift in the entry policies of the Char Dham shrines. Local religious organizations and priests have been advocating for such measures to maintain the spiritual atmosphere and security of these sacred sites.
Focus on Sanctity and Tradition
The temple authorities emphasized that these shrines are centers of faith for millions of Hindus worldwide. By ensuring that only those who adhere to the faith enter the inner sanctums, the committees aim to protect the cultural and religious fabric of the region. This move comes amidst growing demands for stricter verification of visitors in the sensitive Himalayan belt.
