The Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced the schedule for Amarnath Yatra 2026. The 57-day pilgrimage begins on July 3 and concludes on August 28. Registration starts April 15. Key updates include an increased insurance cover of ₹10 lakh and enhanced medical facilities for devotees.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has officially announced the schedule for the Amarnath Yatra 2026. Following a high-level meeting of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), it was confirmed that the 57-day pilgrimage will commence on July 3, 2026, and conclude on August 28, 2026. The advance registration process for devotees is set to begin on April 15, 2026. Authorities are anticipating a 25% increase in the number of pilgrims this year compared to previous seasons.

Registration Process and Eligibility Criteria

To facilitate a smooth registration process, the board has authorized 554 branches of major banks, including Punjab National Bank (PNB), State Bank of India (SBI), Yes Bank, and Jammu & Kashmir Bank, for offline applications. On top of that, an online registration facility will be available through the official SASB website and mobile application. The age limit for participants has been strictly set between 13 and 70 years. Also, women who are more than six weeks pregnant are restricted from undertaking the journey due to health risks at high altitudes.

Enhanced Insurance Cover and Financial Protection

In a significant move to ensure the welfare of pilgrims, the group accidental insurance cover has been increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. This enhanced protection applies to all registered devotees during the course of the yatra. Addressing the concerns of local service providers, the administration has also introduced a compensation of ₹50,000 for pony owners in the event of the death of their livestock. These measures are part of a broader strategy to provide a safety net for everyone involved in the pilgrimage.

Infrastructure Development and Route Widening

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has completed extensive widening and restoration work on both the Baltal and Pahalgam tracks to ensure safer passage. New 'Yatri Niwas' facilities have been operationalized in Srinagar and Baltal to accommodate the growing influx of devotees, while to enhance security and monitoring, the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards remains mandatory for all pilgrims, allowing the administration to track movements in real-time and manage crowds effectively across the challenging terrain.

Medical Facilities and Security Measures

A specialized 200-bed hospital has been established to cater to the medical needs of the pilgrims, supported by multiple base camps equipped with oxygen cylinders and emergency supplies. Advanced Doppler radars have been deployed to provide precise weather forecasts and early warnings regarding potential climatic shifts. A multi-tier security grid involving the Indian Army, CRPF, and local police has been activated to maintain a secure environment throughout the 57-day duration of the holy pilgrimage.
