Flavio Bolsonaro arrives in Miami and claims to be true leader of Brazil

Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro arrived in Miami, declaring himself the true leader of Brazil and accusing Lula and the Supreme Court of election rigging.

A fresh political storm has erupted in Brazil as Senator Flavio Bolsonaro has arrived in the city of Miami, United States, while upon reaching Miami, Flavio Bolsonaro publicly declared himself as the true and rightful leader of Brazil. He launched scathing allegations against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the country's Supreme Court, claiming that they rigged the recent elections to keep him and his political allies away from power. However, despite making these massive claims, he failed to present any concrete evidence to the public or media to substantiate his allegations of electoral fraud, while 5 million votes, a win that has been widely recognized by numerous world leaders and international observers.

Flavio Bolsonaro also openly defied a strict order issued by the Brazilian Supreme Court, which had explicitly instructed him to surrender his passport to the authorities. During his ongoing travel and political maneuvers, he expressed profound gratitude to Argentine President Javier Milei for assisting him in successfully reaching the United States. Also, he extended heartfelt thanks to United States President Donald Trump, who granted valid entry visas to Flavio and his entire family to reside in America.

Social media statements and altered letters

In the midst of his journey to the United States, Flavio posted an open letter on the social media platform X, while in that initial letter, he explicitly described himself as the duly elected president of the country. However, shortly after posting, he deleted that statement and released a revised letter. In this updated version, instead of calling himself the president, he designated himself as the true and proper leader of Brazil. He asserted emphatically that his 60 million supporters and the entire population of Brazil must understand that he remains the legitimate leader of the nation. He leveled heavy accusations, stating that the individuals responsible for stealing votes are part of a criminal syndicate that has successfully established a dictatorship within the country.

Despite these fiery remarks, the Federal Electoral Court of Brazil, numerous international leaders, global election observers, and even Flavio's own political party have officially recognized Lula's democratic victory, while the head of the electoral commission, Kassio Nunes Marques, also confirmed that the entire electoral process was conducted strictly in accordance with the country's laws and constitutional framework. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump declined to make any direct comments regarding Flavio's recent statements, though he has previously described Brazil's electoral process as very unusual.

Demands to annul elections and voting statistics

Flavio Bolsonaro has alleged massive irregularities in the voting process but has not provided any verifiable evidence to support his claims. His primary accusation centers on the claim that a Supreme Court judge sympathetic to Lula extended the voting hours by two hours on a Sunday. This extension was implemented after Lula's political party filed formal complaints regarding attempts to prevent ordinary voters from casting their ballots in northeastern states. Conversely, it's also a matter of record that Flavio's own party had formally requested an extension of voting hours in southern states due to heavy rainfall.

According to a detailed technical analysis conducted by Professor Pedro Burgos of Insper, fewer than 35,000 total votes were cast during those two additional hours. 03 percent of the total votes cast nationwide. Prominent political and legal experts have pointed out that Flavio's legal petition to have the election results completely annulled has virtually no probability of success, while defending his departure, Flavio stated that he didn't flee Brazil out of cowardice, but rather left the country to protect himself and his family from targeted persecution by Lula and the Supreme Court.

Family history and growing international diplomatic tensions

It's noteworthy that Flavio's father and former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro had also traveled to the United States under similar circumstances after losing the presidential election to Lula in 2022. Upon returning to Brazil at a later date, Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years in prison by a court over charges related to orchestrating a coup d'etat plot. This ongoing family controversy and high-profile departure threaten to place renewed diplomatic pressure on bilateral relations between the United States and Brazil. This relationship remains critically sensitive given that Brazil holds the world's second-largest reserves of rare earth minerals. President Lula has previously accused the United States government of attempting to engineer a political comeback for the Bolsonaro family. Meanwhile, the American administration has firmly rejected any assertions of interference in Brazil's internal domestic affairs.
