New Delhi : Heavy rain accompanied by dust storm and thunder wreaked havoc in the entire NCR including the capital Delhi after Monday afternoon. Trees and hoardings were uprooted by the storm in many parts of NCR with winds gusting up to 100 kmph. In addition, the upper brass part of the main dome of Delhi's Jama Masjid has also fallen. At the same time, due to the storm and water, within a quarter of an hour, the temperature of Delhi dropped by up to 15 degrees Celsius.

High-speed winds wreaked havoc, uprooting trees and hoardings in many parts of Delhi, a senior official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said. Due to the strong winds, several AC units of the Express Building on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg were broken and hanged. He said the municipal corporation was assessing the damage caused to trees and properties by the rains.

The Meteorological Department said that along with rain in Delhi NCR, the clouds also roared and strong winds gusted up to 100 kmph. Due to this, the mercury dropped to about 13 degrees in Palam in Delhi and 16 degrees in Safdarjung. In Safdarjung, the temperature dropped from 40 degree Celsius to 25 degree Celsius between 4:20 pm and 5:40 pm.

Earlier, the minimum temperature in Delhi on Monday morning was recorded at 27.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal. The Meteorological Department had predicted cloudy sky in the city during the day. According to the department, the humidity level in the air was recorded at 63 per cent at 8.30 am. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 41 degree Celsius.

eight flight diverts

Eight flights were diverted at Delhi airport on Monday evening due to strong wind and bad weather. These flights were diverted at Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Lucknow airports. Which caused trouble to the people. Although the flights were brought back to Delhi when the weather improved. But in the meantime, people took more time. Air traffic was disrupted around Delhi airport in Palam area due to light rain and then strong wind and thunderstorm. Flights bound from Delhi were also delayed by a few minutes.
