PM Modi In Manipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited the Kuki-dominated Churachandpur district by road despite heavy rains during his first visit to Manipur. This was his first visit to Manipur after ethnic violence broke out in May 2023. On reaching Imphal, heavy rains made it impossible to travel by helicopter, due to which he decided to travel by road for one and a half hours to reach the rally venue. PM Modi described this visit as "extremely memorable" and reiterated his commitment to the people of Manipur.Travelling to Churachandpur by road in heavy rainPrime Minister Narendra Modi reached Imphal in the afternoon, where it was raining heavily. Officials informed him that it was not safe to travel to Churachandpur by helicopter due to the weather. The rally venue was about 60 km from Imphal, and it was to take about one and a half hours to reach by road. PM Modi decided to travel by road without delay. According to sources, he said that no matter how much time it takes, he will reach Churachandpur and meet the people and talk to the victims of violence.During this journey, people on the streets welcomed him warmly with tricolor flags. Addressing a public meeting in Churachandpur, PM Modi said,"My helicopter could not fly due to heavy rains, but the decision to come by road was right. I can never forget the love and affection you gave me on the way. I salute the spirit of the people of Manipur."Message of peace and development in ManipurIn a public meeting held in Churachandpur, PM Modi described Manipur as a "land of hope and aspiration". He said that the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023 had cast its shadow on this beautiful region, but now the situation is changing. Referring to his recent meeting with displaced people at relief camps, he said,"I spoke to the affected people, and now I can say that a new dawn of hope and faith is rising in Manipur."Reiterating the central government's commitment, PM Modi said that the government is working to make Manipur a symbol of peace and prosperity. He said,"Development is not possible without peace. Many conflicts in the Northeast have been resolved in the last 11 years. I appeal to all groups and organizations to choose the path of peace."Launches projects worth Rs 7,300 crorePM Modi laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore at Churachandpur. These projects are aimed at improving the lives of people living in Manipur, especially the hilly areas. He said that now Manipur is progressing along with other parts of the country."Earlier, the decisions of Delhi used to take decades to reach Manipur, but now the situation is changing. The establishment of a medical college in Churachandpur is an example of this."Met the victims of violence and listened to their problemsIn Imphal, PM Modi met people displaced due to ethnic violence and listened to their problems. After this, he reached Churachandpur by road, where he also interacted with the victims of violence. More than 250 people were killed in the ethnic conflict between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribes in Manipur in May 2023, and about 60,000 people were displaced, who are still living in temporary relief camps.Praise for the people of ManipurAddressing thousands of people in Churachandpur, PM Modi said,"You came here in such large numbers even in such heavy rains. I am grateful for your love and affection. The scenes I saw while traveling by road touched my heart. I salute the people of Manipur."A new dawn in ManipurIn his address, PM Modi spoke of new hope and confidence in the people of Manipur. He said that the central government is committed to the development of the Northeast and Manipur is now on the path of progress. This visit not only strengthened the hope for peace in the violence-affected areas, but also showed that the government stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Manipur.
