Hyundai To Launch Two New SUVs In 2026 To Rival Tata And Mahindra

Hyundai Motor India is gearing up to Notably strengthen its foothold in the Indian automotive market by the year 2026. While the company is already working on the next-generation Creta, several other models are currently in the pipeline to cater to the evolving demands of Indian consumers. This strategic move is part of Hyundai's broader vision to launch approximately 26 new models in India by the year 2030. As part of this aggressive expansion, two significant SUVs are expected to hit the market in 2026, targeting different segments. One of these will be a petrol-powered SUV, while the other will be a dedicated electric vehicle (EV), ensuring that Hyundai remains competitive across multiple powertrains.

The Hyundai BC4i: A New Mid-Size Contender

The first major project is the Hyundai BC4i, a specialized SUV being developed specifically for the Indian market. This model is closely related to the Bayon SUV available in global markets. Although it has been spotted testing on Indian roads multiple times, initial speculations suggested it might be a small SUV. However, recent developments clarify that the BC4i will be a mid-size SUV measuring more than 4 meters in length. In terms of market positioning, Hyundai plans to slot this new model between the existing Venue and the upcoming new-generation Creta, filling a crucial gap in its SUV portfolio.

Regarding its design philosophy, the India-spec BC4i is expected to look more like a traditional SUV compared to the global Bayon. It's likely to feature a more upright and strong body structure to appeal to Indian tastes. Key design elements may include a connected LED light bar at the front, stylish LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), premium alloy wheels, and slim LED tail lamps at the rear. Features and Engine Specifications of BC4i

Hyundai is known for loading its vehicles with premium features, and the BC4i will be no exception. The second major launch for 2026 is a new electric SUV, currently known by its internal codename HE1i. This vehicle represents a significant milestone as it will be Hyundai's first localized electric SUV designed specifically for India. The HE1i has also been seen undergoing testing on Indian roads, showcasing a boxy and rugged design language similar to the Hyundai Exter and the global Casper model. Unlike the BC4i, the HE1i will be a compact SUV measuring less than 4 meters in length.

This electric SUV will be built on Hyundai's new E-GMP(K) platform, which is optimized for electric performance. To cater to different range requirements, Hyundai is expected to offer two battery pack options: a 42 kWh unit and a larger 49 kWh unit. Both versions are projected to deliver a driving range of approximately 400 kilometers on a single full charge, making it a practical choice for both city commutes and occasional long trips.

Interior Technology and Market Competition

The interior of the HE1i will be packed with modern technology to attract tech-savvy buyers. Expected features include a large infotainment screen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and advanced connected car technology, while for comfort, it may offer ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof.
