New Delhi: Wishing Indian athletes luck prior to the start of the Summer Games 2020, PM Narendra Modi interacted with the Tokyo Olympic-bound contingent of India on Tuesday. The special interaction became an instant hit among the fans and players as the Indian Prime Minister saluted the struggles of the athletes who are gearing up for the 2020 edition of the Olympics.

During the special interaction, the Indian Prime Minister praised badminton ace PV Sindhu and also promised to have ice cream with the BWF World Championships gold medallist. Addressing the Indian athletes, PM Modi had an interesting query for world champion Sindhu who was barred from eating ice cream during the 2016 Rio Olympics.

"There was a ban on eating ice creams on you during the 2016 Olympics, has another ban been imposed for Tokyo," PM Modi asked Sindhu during the interaction on Tuesday. "Sir, I have to be careful of my diet," Sindhu responded. PM Modi promised Sindhu that he will have ice cream with the ace shuttler after the conclusion of the 2020 Olympics in Japan.

"Sindhu Ji your parents have made a lot of sacrifices to help you reach where you are at the moment. They have done their job, now it is your turn to show what you are made of. Work hard and I am confident that you will be successful once again. And when you all come back from the Olympics, I will have ice-cream with you," PM Modi said.

Regarded as one of the best players on the international circuit, Sindhu will enter the Summer Games as the World's No.1 badminton player. Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics in 2016. India have named its biggest-ever contingent for the 2020 Tokyo Games.

A total of 126 athletes including the likes of Sindhu, Mary Kom (boxing), Sania Mirza (tennis), Manika Batra (table tennis), Dutee Chand (athletics), Deepika Kumari (archery), and Sajan Prakash (swimmer) are heading to the Summer Games.
